Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor is a Popular Indian actor and a new producer, who has been Associated with the field of Cinema since 2005. He is the Son of Famous Actor of 70s, Rishi Kapoor and Grandson of Raj Kapoor, the showman of Indian Cinema. He started his acting career in 2007 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Melodramatic film 'Saawariya'. In the past 10 years of his career, he has proven his skills as a good actor and won five Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor Awards for his Movies Rockstar and Barfi. He has Purchased Shares in a Football Team Named Mumbai City FC for Indian Super League Football Matches. He runs a production house named Picture-Shuru.

Ranbir Kapoor's Early Life and Family

Ranbir Kapoor was born to actors Rishi Kapoor and actress mother Neetu Singh, on 28 September 1982, in Mumbai. Ranbir is the great-grandson of actor, Director and producer Prithviraj Kapoor and grandson of late actor and film-maker Raj Kapoor. Actresses Karishma and Kareena are daughter of Ranbir's paternal uncle Randhir Kapoor. He did his schooling from Bombay Scottish School. He did not fair much in studies. Most offspring of the Kapoor family tree are actors and so Ranbir gradually developed an interest in the same. Ranbir Kapoor assisted his father's film 'Aa Ab Laut Chalen' in 1999. Then he moved to New York to sharpen his acting skills and later joined the 'Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute' in New York to learn method-acting.

Ranbir Kapoor's Career

Upon his return Ranbir Kapoor directed two short films and acted in them. The films were: 'Passion to Love' and 'India 1964'. He then assisted Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on his 2005 film 'Black'. This acquaintance with Sanjay got Ranbir his first role in yet another film by Bhansali, this time as the lead actor.'Saawariya', which came in 2007, starred Ranbir Kapoor along with renowned actress Rani Mukherjee and newcomer Sonam Kapoor. Sonam is the daughter of actor Anil Kapoor. Saawariya failed to make a mark on the box-office. Ranbir Kapoor was offered his second film 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' by Yash Raj Films. The movie starred actresses Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba. The film was a commercial success.
In 2009, Ranbir Kapoor played the lead role in debut Director Ayan Mukerji's first movie 'Wake Up Sid'. The story revolved around Sid, a character played by Ranbir Kapoor, who seems confused about what he should do in life. Ranbir's acting skills were appreciated in the film. Actress Konkona Sen Sharma played his love-interest in the film. In 2009, another movie 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' starring Ranbir Kapoor was released. This was Ranbir's first comedy film. The film starred Katrina Kaif along with Ranbir. Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani was a commercial success. Again in 2009, Ranbir starred in 'Rocket Singh Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his performances in the films.

In 2010, Ranbir starred in political drama film 'Rajneeti', where he played a successor to a political family. The movie starred big actors like Nana Patekar and Manoj Bajpayee along with Katrina Kaif. The movie was said to be inspired from the Indian mythological epic 'Mahabharat'. The film was one of the biggest hits of the year. In 2011, Ranbir Kapoor was offered a role in Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar. The movie had a grand release and A.R.Rahman's music added to the charisma of the film. Rockstar turned out to be Ranbir's biggest hit until that date. Ranbir Kapoor won the Best Actor trophy at the 57th Filmfare awards for his performance in Rockstar.


In 2012, Ranbir played the role of a deaf and mute man, in Anurag Basu's film 'Barfi'. It proved to be one of the biggest hits of the year and helped Ranbir be counted among finest class of actors. The film was also the India's official entry film for the 85th Academy Awards. In 2013, friend and Director Ayan Mukerji casted Ranbir Kapoor in his romantic comedy 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'. Ranbir tasted success with this film as well.
Though few of Ranbir Kapoor's recent movies such as Tamasha, Bombay Velvet, and Jagga Jasoos failed to do big on the Box-office, he is still considered to be in the run. Ranbir Kapoor is set to play the role of actor Sanjay Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani's upcoming film.
